The Foundation Institut Catala de Farmacologia, was the founder of the Spanish Pharmacovigilance System (SEFV) in 1983. FICF carries out the Pharmacovigilance in Catalonia and is the Pharmacovigilance Center of Catalonia.
The Yellow Card , or spontaneous reporting of suspected adverse drug reactions,
has detected numerous undesirable effects that were unknown and has been the basis for regulatory decisions aimed at improving the safety of drug use. SEFV is made up of 17
regionals centers plus a Coordinating center. FICF has been part of the WHO International Pharmacovigilance Program since 1984.
