FICF investigates the effectiveness of the use of the drugs and the toxicity problems derived from their use in the usual clinical practice. This activity includes Pharmacovigilance, coordination of studies on specific diseases and the implementation of DUS - Drug Utilization Studies.
In the area of Clinical trials, the Clinical pharmacology service evaluates the clinical trial protocols presented in the Research Ethics Committee of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH). In collaboration with other services and institutions independent clinical trials are developed.
FICF is part of the ENCePP (European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance) of the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) and also of the project PROTECT project , an European public-private consortium, coordinated by the EMEA. Public centers, 11 pharmaceutical companies, one patient association and two SMEs. In addition, it forms part of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) , in which it constitutes a transversal research group.
FICF also carries out research support activities in order to facilitate and promote clinical research in all hospital areas and in the corresponding area of primary care through the Methods Support Unit for Clinical Research (USMIB) and the Primary Care Research Advisory Service (SAIAP) .
FICF coordinated several studies on the therapeutic use of cannabis .
